Art Auction

Art Auction Showcase

All of the classrooms participated in our art auction put together by our art teacher Ms. Faith. Ms. Faith started the art program here at The Learning Gardens this past November going around to every classroom every Thursday and Friday to help teach and expand their knowledge of the art world and all it has to offer. The art auction was held at our annual family feast before Thanksgiving. The proceeds went to Toys for Tots, and will be featured on WKOW channel 27 when they go shopping for toys with the news anchors. We want to thank all of the parents who donated to our art auction!

Wiggles Classroom

Wiggle’s Abstraction, 2023

Tempera Paint on canvas, 12 x 24 inch

We explored the paint using our fingers and brushes, creating different textures and new colors.  Seeing the white, pink, and blue mix together on top of the brown base created a bright abstract piece.

Peapods Classroom

Peapod’s Abstraction, 2023

Tempera Paint on canvas, 12 x 24 inch

Using our fingers, we pushed, slapped, and moved the different colors of paint around.  We were able to see how the three colors interacted on our canvas and how they mixed to make new colors.

Butterflies Classroom

Butterflies Abstraction, 2023

Tempera Paint on canvas, 11 x 14 inch

We each took turns moving the paint around on the canvas.  Our fingers/palms pushed and mixed the paint around to create exciting new colors and textures.

Honeybees Classroom

Home, 2023

Tempera Paint on canvas, 16 x 20 inch

Using all the colors in the rainbow, we each finger-painted with a different color.  It was fun to explore how different gestures created different marks and textures.  Layering and mixing the colors created new interesting color mixes.  The Wisconsin shape was taped off so we practiced using our motor skills to aim for the white of the canvas.

Ladybugs Classroom

High Five, 2023

Tempera Paint handprints on colored construction paper, 20 x 16 inch

We brushed black paint on our hands, exploring the way it feels.  On pop-art inspired hand cut-outs, we practiced our gross motor skills by stamping our hands on the paper (with help from teachers!)

Pumpkin Classroom

X Marks The Spot, 2023

Tempera Paint on canvas, 20 x 16 inch

We took turns using our hands or brushes to push paint around on the canvas.  We saw how different movements made the paint thinner, exposing different parts of the orange underpainting.  The blue on top of the orange pops as they are complimentary colors.

Pop/Peas Classroom

Pop/Peas Abstract Expressionism, 2023

Tempera Paint and water on canvas, 16 x 20 inch

During our first art session, the class was asked to explore materials, or mediums, such as colored pencil, crayon, marker, watercolor, and oil pastel on white and colored pieces of paper.  We independently explored how these mediums interacted with each other and how the color of paper changes things.

As the class explored, we called friends over one by one to paint on our canvas.  Each artist was able to choose the color they wanted to add to the piece and which brush to use.  We then explored how using a spray bottle of water on the paint made it move and drip over the canvas.  Some friends chose to use their fine motor skills to pick up water in a dropper and add it to the piece. Altogether, the result created a colorful expressionistic painting.

Sunflowers Classroom

Primary Shape Abstraction, 2023

Tempera Paint on canvas, 20 x 16 inch

Using the three primary colors, red, blue, and yellow, we explored how when these colors mix, they make new colors.  Using our hands, paint brushes, cleaning brushes, and cardboard tubes, we created fun textures and shapes.  We stamped, dragged, and pushed the paint around using basic concepts of color and shapes.

Apple Blossoms

Dinner Spinner Art, 2023

Tempera Paint on construction paper, 16 x 20 inch

While our class was a bit sparse last Thursday, we were still able to have lots of fun.  We all stood around a table and took turns trying salad spinner art!  We chose the colors we wanted and poured the paint on the paper in the salad spinner.  We then spun it, seeing our colors swirl and mix together.  Our class was encouraging – suggesting ideas of what the colors reminded each other of – such as fire or Spiderman.

Sunshines Classroom

Sunshine Mosaic, 2023

Mixed media on construction paper, 16 x 20 inch

During our first art session, the class was asked to explore materials, or mediums, such as a colored pencil, crayon, marker, watercolor, and oil pastel on white and colored pieces of paper.  We independently explored how these mediums interacted with each other and how the color of paper changes the results.  The mosaic is a culmination of Sunshine’s pieces.
