The Learning Gardens Child Development Center, a local leader in early childcare and education, is a licensed and accredited center, receiving a 5-star rating from YoungStar. Through our infant, toddler, preschool 4k, and school age programs, we work with and support families with infants as young as six weeks old, through children up to age 10. At the Learning Gardens, we believe children thrive in the security and stimulation of a high-quality program which links families and the center together. In doing so, we accomplish our mission of ensuring children acquire the skills they need to become productive members of society. We believe young children learn best through active involvement in an environment which is caring, child directed, developmentally appropriate, educationally enriching and embraces diversity. Please see the wonderful environment we will provide your family by taking our virtual tour.

4K Pomp & Circumstance!

GRADUATION 2021! The transition from spring to summer brought an exciting event for our 4K children – GRADUATION! Another tradition returned this year, where TLG teachers, administration, and families came together to celebrate completion of four-year-old kindergarten. “Pomp and Circumstance”, diplomas, cheers, sting confetti, cupcakes and cookies, hugs, as well as LOTS of family pictures made for a wonderful event as our TLG family was able to gather for the first time in over a year.   Having watched so many of these children from infancy, the cliché that “time moves too quickly” never seemed more appropriate as we witnessed […]

Week of the Young Child 2021

Let’s talk to the animals! Every spring the Learning Gardens celebrates the “Week of the Young Child”. This annual event, sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC – https://www.naeyc.org/events/woyc), “gives public attention to the needs of young children and their families”, and recognizes “the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.” This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Week of the Young Child. The event is meant to bring further awareness to how the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children’s success in school and later life. […]

Child-Directed Play

Child-Directed Play in the Ladybugs Classroom… In our Ladybugs classroom, we let our planning start with child-directed play. This is a style of play in which the child is put in the leadership position when it comes to the types of toys and themes that are used in the classroom. Allowing the children to play by their own rules and to engage an adult in their preferred style of play and activities helps them to feel special, gives them control over their own learning, and builds their self-confidence. The child chooses what to play and how to play; and we, […]

Globalizing Play

Globalizing Play in the Honeybees Classroom! Alex and Maritza (aka “Ritza” to our TLG family) are the teachers in Honeybees – one of our young toddler (1-2 years old) classrooms. Alex tells us about “globalizing play” in the classroom. When I first began teaching, people would often ask me “What’s a Geography major doing teaching toddlers?” Initially, I struggled with this question and often found myself fumbling through an answer. However, I quickly came to find out there couldn’t be a more perfect place to discuss community and culture than a toddler classroom. So why is it important to discuss […]

Young Artists

Welcome to the Wiggle Worms Classroom! In the Wiggle Worms classroom, Bianca and Ashley already are providing amazing early learning experiences for our infants (aged six weeks to 12 months) at the Learning Gardens. They believe a great week includes tons of snuggles, tummy time, warm milk, art, music, and reading.   A favorite activity, that encourages the use of fine motor skills, is getting messy while finger painting! Recently, the babies created their latest masterpiece. They titled it “Baby Picasso.” Large motor skills also are a big focus with the Wiggle Worms infants. Bianca and Ashley have found that […]

Two Peas in a Pod

Welcome to the Pea Pod Room! My name is Paige and since I am one of the newest members to The Learning Gardens’ (TLG) infant teacher team, I thought I would introduce myself and tell you all a little about me, my co-teacher Ashley, and our incredible Pea Pod Room. First a little about me, I fell in love with teaching children five years ago and in July 2020, joined the Pea Pod room as one of the lead teachers. My love of children and the enjoyment I feel seeing them develop and grow are truly fulfilling. Once I started […]
